There comes a moment in life when you realize that the place you've always called home is no longer where your next chapter begins.
A few days ago, I packed my bags, hugged my family, looked around my room one last time, and left my hometown. It wasn't just another trip or a vacation—it was the beginning of a completely new life.
For the next two years, Thapar University will be my home.
It's a strange feeling. Exciting, overwhelming, and emotional all at once.
For 21 years, home meant familiar streets, late-night conversations with my family, my favorite food waiting on the table, and a room filled with memories. Suddenly, all of that is hundreds of kilometers away. Now I'm waking up in a hostel room that still feels unfamiliar, surrounded by people I've never met before, trying to build a routine from scratch.
Everything is different.
The campus is bigger than I imagined. Every building, every path, and every classroom reminds me that I'm starting over. It's both scary and beautiful.
I know there will be homesick days.
There will be moments when I'll miss my parents, my friends, and even the little things I never appreciated enough—home-cooked meals, my own bed, and the comfort of knowing where everything is.
But I also know this is where growth begins.
Over the next two years, I'll learn much more than what's written in textbooks. I'll meet people from different places, make memories I'll carry for the rest of my life, face challenges that will test me, and hopefully become a better version of myself.
This isn't just about earning a degree.
It's about learning how to live on my own.
It's about making mistakes, finding solutions, becoming independent, and discovering who I am when I'm away from everything familiar.
I'll probably get lost on campus.
I'll definitely miss home.
I'll have days where everything feels exciting, and days where I question whether I can do this.
But that's okay.
Every new beginning feels uncomfortable before it starts feeling like home.
So here's to this new chapter.
Here's to late-night study sessions, hostel memories, random adventures, new friendships, endless cups of chai, stressful exams, and the countless stories that are waiting to happen.
To my hometown—thank you for shaping me into who I am.
And to Thapar University—
I'm ready.
For the next two years, this is my new home.
Let's make it unforgettable.
